KIGALI, KIGALI

31st October - 7th November 2012
10am - 5pm (Mon - Sat)

The Ivuka Arts group in Kigali is one of a handful of nascent and groundbreaking collective studios in Rwanda, which are exploring the creative potential of contemporary art and providing networks and educational and supportive opportunities to their surrounding communities. The six professional artists and nine young artists showing in the exhibition have been working creatively for many years and represent the best of young talent that Rwanda has to offer.Working from a position of being self- taught, the artists have developed their own expressive language both collectively and individually, and explore both figurative and abstract expressionist ideas, separately and in combination. The artists work in acrylics with a striking sense of colour and movement, translating their environment and their contemporary sense of place in modern Africa.

Over the course of 2024 Out of the Blue will continue to offer opportunities for artists and members of the community to learn, participate and earn income.

We use the space we have developed in 6 buildings in Edinburgh for studios, workshops, classes, projects, exhibitions, social enterprises, events, clubs, music making, markets, a cafe and more.

Our all year round activity helps create the culture of the city, supporting the local economy and having positive social impact for the thousands of individuals and organisations we work with.

We would humbly accept a financial donation, however small, in support of our work.
