Strangebird Zirkus Summer Aerial Intensive

Sat 6th July - Sun 15th September 2013
1pm - 4.30pm

This intensive course will offer participants the chance to develop their aerial vocabulary on a choice of apparatus. Silks, aerial hoop, static trapeze, and rope will be offered*. Technique will be taught in the form of ascents, positions, transitions, drops and descents. These will be built into longer choreographies.

There will also be a focus on refining body position in the air, minimising the frequency of hand changes and improving elementary aerial technique such as beats and use of momentum in transitions. The class will also include a short session each day on performance technique with stage craft and creative tasks given. These are useful for those interested in performing and also useful to any aerial student, as applying your skills in a variety of ways greatly improves confidence and fluidity in the air.  *Upon booking participants will be asked to select 1 or 2 apparatus to focus on. We advise 2, as changing apparatus helps  improve aerial awareness and balance muscle development.

Level: This course is pitched at an intermediate level, participants of varied experience can be catered for within the class. The material taught will depend on each individual’s existing aerial vocabulary and level of experience.

Places: The class will have a maximum of 8 places, there will be 4 pieces of equipment, one teacher.

Teacher: Lucy Deacon is a performer and choreographer of circus movement. She has a Circus Arts Diploma from Rogelio Rivel circus school Barcelona, where she specialised in aerial hoop & silks but also received a grounding in acrobatics, static trapeze, handstands and trampolining. She later further specialised in Chinese pole and has investigated across a wide range of aerial technique for more than 10 years. Lucy is artistic director of Strangebird Zirkus, her performing career has taken her from the UK to Ireland, France, Germany, Spain, Bosnia, India and Hong Kong.
