Please Note: This performance meets at the Drill Hall, and audience will be collected for a short walk to the venue.

Black Stuff is a promenade show about lives and imaginations shaped by coal mining. Immerse yourself in a subterranean adventure in a building transformed by coal, fire, sweat and machinery. Overload your senses with the noise and suffocation of lives lived underground and with dreams of the blue sky beyond.

Surreal, funny and spectacular: Black Stuff is an unsentimental exploration of life, art, coal and politics fromWales’s most consistently inventive performance company. With the demise of our heavy industries and with a bitter taste still lingeringin the mouth thirty years after the miners’ strike, we are not content just to be brassed off or to dance our cares away. Contemporary Wales has enough poetry and pity to last. Black Stuff finds different ways of describing our memories and our futures.

Uneven walking surfaces.

Over the course of 2024 Out of the Blue will continue to offer opportunities for artists and members of the community to learn, participate and earn income.

We use the space we have developed in 6 buildings in Edinburgh for studios, workshops, classes, projects, exhibitions, social enterprises, events, clubs, music making, markets, a cafe and more.

Our all year round activity helps create the culture of the city, supporting the local economy and having positive social impact for the thousands of individuals and organisations we work with.

We would humbly accept a financial donation, however small, in support of our work.
