The Drill Hall on Dalmeny Street was built
in 1901 for the Royal Scots
Regiment. Out Of The Blue purchased the building from the TA
in 2003, and
are in the process of refurbishment to create an artistic hub
for the
community.
Over the past year over 50 artists & arts organisations
have taken up
studios in this unique building, the layout of the space still
as the army
had used it.
Architects Ciao are re-designing the space taking inspiration
from monastic
and souk patterns. The plans incorporate artists studios,
offices,
exhibition space, workshops, rehearsal spaces, conference
facilities, café,
crèche and a studio theatre.
2 recent Lottery awards will ensure the building is fully
accessible and
environmentally sustainable.
