ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
I was born and raised in Belfast before moving to Edinburgh in 1984. Prior to moving I completed a one year foundation course at the Belfast College of Art in 1983. I came to Edinburgh and joined Napier University's new BA course in Film and Photography. It was some years later when searching for a new artistic direction that a good friend reminded me of my father's skills as a mosaic artist. For the first time I found an art form that satisfied the visual ideas in my mind. The majority of my work is abstract and pattern based though I have built a couple of pieces that have pictorial representation. I see mosaic as a very widely usable decorative tool, for all kinds of spaces, from the minimal repetitive patterns that match current interior design styles to the large piece I am working on at the moment, a Georgian floor panel for the entrance hall of a neo Georgian country house.
