TESSA MCGREGOR
ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
I was brought up in Edinburgh and moved to London at the age of 18. I studied at Chelsea and City & Guilds of London Art School. I had a studio at Wellworth/Keith Talent Gallery for 2 years until I recently moved back to Edinburgh.
My current body of work explores an artificial space alluding to a virtual or imagined world, where huge flowers and the occasional wandering animal float in a twilight zone. Cartoon-like imagery and artificial colours play over this setting, heightening the interaction between fantasy and reality. The stylistic diversity questions conventions of taste and presentation. Seeing the paintings of Martin Johnson Heade with the exaggerated scale flowers and other-worldly colours was a definite point of departure for my own work. Other influences include Fred Tomaselli, Laura Owens, Sulin Wang and Sharon Ellis.
