MAIRI TAYLOR
ARTIST STATEMENT
My current work is a combination of photographic and sculptural practice that examines a sense of place and perception, producing art works that engage with a past (in the photographic image) and a present (of the viewer) and that are interested with the space between the two.
ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
I studied at the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art, where I completed my BFA in 1999. Before commencing a Masters Degree at Duncan of Jordanstone in Dundee in 2001, I spent some time working with glass both at Edinburgh College of Art and in the United States . Since completing my MFA at the end of 2002 I have been living and working in Edinburgh .
Through my studies I have developed an interest in various practices and processes, which I now use together in my work. I work mainly with objects - found or made - and with the photographic image. I am interested in putting image and object together and the dialogue that this creates.
I am also experienced as an art group sessional leader and have experience of working on and leading various projects, with different adult groups.
