First Impressions workshops offer a hands-on introduction to the fascinating world of art history for all ages by Edinburgh-based artist, educational facilitator and qualified nursery nurse Julie Dawson.
15 September: Egyptian art
Step back in time to learn the mysteries of Egyptian art and create your own papyrus scroll.
22 September: Pablo Picasso
Discover how the artist Pablo Picasso used ancient Egyptian ideas to create thoroughly modern portraits.
13 October: Islamic rugs
How can you have art without "pictures"? Create richly decorated
Islamic-style textile art and find out just how beautiful patterns can be.
20 October: Henri Matisse
Feeling inspired by Islamic art? So was Henri Matisse. Use his technique of drawing with scissors to create a jewel-toned collage.
3 November: El Dia de los Muertos
Halloween may be over, but if you're still feeling spooky, join us to learn about Mexico's Day of the Dead festival and create some skeletal sculpture.
10 November: Frida Kahlo
What can a self-portrait tell us about an artist? We find out from Frida Kahlo's work and use our art to tell some stories of our own.
Workshops are £4.50 per child per workshop. 11am-12pm for 3-6 year olds (under 5s should be accompanied by an adult) and 1pm-2pm for 7+ years.
