October 2016 News

Wednesday 26th September 2016

Following the successful production of ‘Tales from The Hanging Captain’ in this year’s Leith and Edinburgh Festivals, the Out of the Blue instigated Leith Moves project gets into gear for a raft of new creative activity highlighting moments of hidden history from Leith docks. For those who wish to be involved in the ongoing research for this project there will be a meeting of the Leith Moves Research Group on Saturday 1st October and then fortnightly. Active Inquiry and Strange Town theatre companies again join forces to devise and perform a new piece of theatre starting on 3rd October and then weekly at 18.00. All Welcome.

The 20th Edinburgh Independent and Radical Book Fair (26th – 30th) transforms the Out of the Blue Drill Hall into a haven of literature supplemented by a fascinating programme of authors talks and events. James Kelman launches the Book Fair on Wednesday 26th at 19.00.

Prior to this we welcome the Bruncheon and RE-ACT Humble Jumble Sale (8th), Global Justice Now (9th), Wiff Waff Wednesday (12th), Edinburgh Eco Fair (15th), The Wellbeing Mela (23rd) and an exhibition of paintings from Anna Redpath and Malcolm Knox (4th – 7th).

Freeze Frame Film Club and Screen Bandita collaborate for two exciting cinematic events; the Bring Your Own Archive workshop on Saturday 1st, a chance to have your old 8mm/16mm films projected on the big screen, and on Friday 14th enjoy an evening of unexpected and entertaining visual curios at Treasures from the Screen Bandita Archive

Prior to October’s rich and varied happenings, it’s a last chance to see #artcore’s Oh Buoy exhibition of work by 13 Edinburgh-based artists via Out of the Blueprint, and Coast: Where The Land Meets The Sea, featuring photographic works by Leith-based Cristian James, on display in the Drill Hall Arts Cafe Print Shed exhibition space.

Over the course of 2024 Out of the Blue will continue to offer opportunities for artists and members of the community to learn, participate and earn income.

We use the space we have developed in 6 buildings in Edinburgh for studios, workshops, classes, projects, exhibitions, social enterprises, events, clubs, music making, markets, a cafe and more.

Our all year round activity helps create the culture of the city, supporting the local economy and having positive social impact for the thousands of individuals and organisations we work with.

We would humbly accept a financial donation, however small, in support of our work.
