Out of the Blue Open Studios

Visit our resident artists’ and makers’ studios to get a behind-the-scenes peek into the work they do here at the Drill Hall! This event runs alongside the Xmas Arts Market on Saturday 3rd December from 11am-5pm. 

Please note that there is a £1 entry fee for the Xmas Arts Market.

Artists opening their doors for Open Studios include:

Mairi B’s World of Sewing
Embroidered accessories, including purses, bags & for the home, cushions & wall panels. Mairi will also be showing examples of her embroidered stays & corsetry.

Megan Chapman: Visual Artist
A range of abstract mixed media paintings on canvas along with small originals and affordable signed limited edition prints.

Claire Williamson Art
Paintings and drawings of birds, the coast and landscape. Inspired by light, nature and mood, Claire is always eager to capture the spirit, feeling and expression of her subject.

The Clarsach Society & Edinburgh International Harp Festival
The Clarsach Society’s aim is to promote, encourage and develop the playing of the clarsach, nationally and internationally, through tuition, performance and publication. The Clarsach Society hires out harps to members and runs the Edinburgh International Harp Festival. Pop in to hear some tunes and even try out a harp!

Claire Pouget Wright jewellery + mixed media art
Claire works mainly in silver using etching and stone-setting to bring texture and colour into her jewellery designs.

Out of the Blueprint
Out of the Blueprint is a social enterprise offering affordable, eco-friendly risograph printing. Strollers Music School – Out of the Blue
At Strollers Music School, you will learn how to make music, not just play it. We believe that is is more important to help our students to fulfil their own personal goals, rather that just stick to a curriculum. Lessons available for all ages and abilities on guitar, piano, ukulele, bass, voice and blues harmonica.

Polly Thelwall
I distill unconscious thought, blending dreams with substance, working the seam where magic collides with the visible world I explore the intensity and fragility of human experience in sculptural form and drawing.

Lizette Venter – Clovetree
Handspun luxury yarns with a difference – ideal for the discerning yarnista or weaver. Come and see the process, or just to enjoy a riot of colour and texture. It might leave you wondering, is it art or is it craft…?

Upholstery with Heart. I aim to restore pieces, old or new, with sensitivity to the individual character as well as the creativity to see their potential. This might involve a simple recover, but more often than not it involves going back to the frame to rebuild the piece from scratch.

    Over the course of 2024 Out of the Blue will continue to offer opportunities for artists and members of the community to learn, participate and earn income.

    We use the space we have developed in 6 buildings in Edinburgh for studios, workshops, classes, projects, exhibitions, social enterprises, events, clubs, music making, markets, a cafe and more.

    Our all year round activity helps create the culture of the city, supporting the local economy and having positive social impact for the thousands of individuals and organisations we work with.

    We would humbly accept a financial donation, however small, in support of our work.
