Sample the art of mosaic and learn the basic principles of mosaic making with Abbeymount-based artist Helen Miles
A four hour mosaic taster workshop to give you the essential skills needed to make beautiful mosaics using found and salvaged materials.
The workshop will begin with a brief overview of mosaics and a look at the various methods, approaches and possibilities of the medium before focusing on how to use broken and found materials to create distinctive art work.
You will learn how to cut and shape your materials and build up a design by pressing the ‘tesserae’ directly into an adhesive paste so no grouting is necessary.
During the mosaic taster workshop you will make a number of small mixed media mosaics using materials such as pebbles and shells, broken pottery and single use plastics.
You’ll have the chance to experiment with different colours, textures and patterns to get a feel for the fascinating world of mosaic and its almost infinite possibilities and leave with the skills and know-how needed to tackle larger projects at home.
No previous experience necessary.
Subjects covered: use of mosaic tools, cutting and laying techniques and adding pigments to your tile adhesive.
The workshop will run from 10am to 2.30pm (with a half hour lunch break).
