About the artist

Karina Pasiut is a textile artist and print designer known for her use of traditional screen-printing techniques on both fabric and paper, with embroidery and appliqué. Her recent portfolio demonstrates a wide range of work, including decorative graphics on textiles, soft 3D objects, and striking large-scale quilts. She draws inspiration from her daily observations as well as introspective reflections, resulting in unique and personal creations.

About the exhibition

Days and Nights delves into the intricate tapestry of the mind-body relationship, weaving a thematic exploration between the two. It evokes the experience of inhabiting a body that mirrors our emotions and engages with the conflicts posed by the rational mind. This duality works in both directions, as we may foster unrealistic expectations and privilege the mind, accidentally eclipsing the rich experiences that the body affords.

Drawing inspiration from the thought of Alexander Lowen who said in his book Pleasure: “A man can believe that he possesses his mind, but he never fully possesses his body. There are processes in the body which the mind can never comprehend or control – the beat of the heart, the surge of feeling, the longing of love. And because the mind cannot fully control the body, it is afraid of the body as it is of unknown forces in nature.

The body, corporeal and substantial, undergoes growth and decay, is subjected to the laws of gravity and prone to vulnerability and injury. On the contrary, the mind appears ethereal, pure, and seemingly unassailable, with thoughts that transcend the confines of time and space. This collection provokes contemplation on the dichotomy of weightiness and lightness, vulnerability and impregnability, inviting us to reflect on the intricate interplay between the tangible and intangible aspects of our existence.

Launch Party

All are welcome to the exhibition launch party on Tuesday 3rd October from 6:00pm – 8:00pm.
