Easter Aerial Creative Course 2014 with Strangebird Zirkus

Monday 14th - Friday 18th April 2014

Level: Improver/ Intermediate
Mon. April 14th 10am-2pm
Tues. April 15th 10am-2pm
Wed. April 16th 10am-2pm
Thurs. April 17th 1pm – 5pm
Fri. April 18th 10am – 3pm

The apparatus available during the course will be: aerial hoop, silks, rope, and static trapeze.

Creative
Participants will work through a range of creative exercises to develop innovative ways of using aerial apparatus in engaging short pieces of performance. Tasks will be given to assist each individual in developing their own unique style in the air and creating original moves on the apparatus. We will also explore the visual forms that ideas can take and will experiment with combining aerial with other theatrical elements.

The course will consist of a combination of aerial and ground based creative exercises. Participants will work in a laboratory style environment where ideas can be explored without inhibition. Technical assistance will be given when putting together choreographies on the equipment but participants should be prepared to work largely from their own skills base.

Skills Reinforcement

The course will include skills reinforcement sessions. There will also be a focus on refining body position in the air, minimising the frequency of hand changes and improving elementary aerial technique such as beats and use of momentum in transitions to improve fluidity and efficiency.

Short sections of performance that have emerged during the course will be presented to a friendly audience at the end of the week.
