How To Be An Artist

a practical guide to impracticality

Thursday 20th August – 9.30pm

Are you an artist? Who decides who’s an artist? What is an artist anyway? How am I going to make my next show? Where’s next month’s rent money coming from? Are these questions all rhetorical or merely difficult to answer?

A collection of Forest Fringe artists come together to try and tell you some if not all of what they know about how to be an artist. An intimate one-off gathering to celebrate art and artists and demand more of both in spite of a government that seems to care for neither.

Whether you’re an artist or not, come along for a informal, anarchic night of songs, stories, practical exercises and dubious advice featuring Bryony Kimmings, Chris Thorpe, Deborah Pearson, Buzzcut Festival and more.

Over the course of 2024 Out of the Blue will continue to offer opportunities for artists and members of the community to learn, participate and earn income.

We use the space we have developed in 6 buildings in Edinburgh for studios, workshops, classes, projects, exhibitions, social enterprises, events, clubs, music making, markets, a cafe and more.

Our all year round activity helps create the culture of the city, supporting the local economy and having positive social impact for the thousands of individuals and organisations we work with.

We would humbly accept a financial donation, however small, in support of our work.
