Out of the Blue Open Studios

Go behind the scenes and into the studios of the artists and makers based in the Out of the Blue Drill Hall.
Artists will have a diverse range of work available to enjoy and purchase.

This event runs alongside the Xmas Arts Market

Artists opening their doors for Open Studios include:

Mairi Brown
Mairi Brown paints with thread. From an initial sketch to layering silk chiffon and the build-up of stitch, she creates unique pieces. Inspired by animal and botanical imagery, the colours and shapes, Mairi free machine embroiders on accessories and garments.

Megan Chapman
Megan Chapman is an abstract painter. Chapman’s work has evolved into an intuitive, visual diary of her interior language. The foundation of her work is in the balancing of shape and line with colour, texture, and atmosphere.

Precious Metals Workshop
The Precious Metals Workshop provides benches and workshop space for professional jewellers, silversmiths and the general public in Edinburgh, as well as a wide range of weekly classes and workshops.

Polly Thelwall
Polly Thelwall creates sculpture and drawings. After growing up in Northern Ireland, she studied Sculpture at Edinburgh College of Art. Working the seam where magic collides with the visible world, Polly explores the intensity and fragility of human experience.

    Over the course of 2024 Out of the Blue will continue to offer opportunities for artists and members of the community to learn, participate and earn income.

    We use the space we have developed in 6 buildings in Edinburgh for studios, workshops, classes, projects, exhibitions, social enterprises, events, clubs, music making, markets, a cafe and more.

    Our all year round activity helps create the culture of the city, supporting the local economy and having positive social impact for the thousands of individuals and organisations we work with.

    We would humbly accept a financial donation, however small, in support of our work.
