October News

Friday 25th September 2020

Out of the Blue are proud owners of the ‘A listed’ Drill Hall in Dalmeny Street, Leith. We pride ourselves on the work that we undertook almost 20 years ago to buy the building with finance from Triodos Bank and Social Investment Scotland. We are also proud of the refurbishment which kept the integrity of the historically and architecturally significant site, and produced the spaces which have over the years enabled many thousands of people to come through our doors to learn, work, perform, rehearse, exhibit, be creative, eat, drink and socialise. To find out more, visit our 2020 Doors Open Days entries to get an insight into both the Out of the Blue Drill Hall and Abbeymount Studios.

Amongst the many enterprises Out of the Blue have created or support, Out of the Blueprint was initiated 5 years ago.  In addition to working on hundreds of print jobs, the studio has worked with over 200 young artists from across Scotland. To celebrate their birthday they’ve hand-picked 20 brilliant artists to collaborate on a joint exhibition in October and compendium of comics. ‘Walk Don’t Walk‘ will be a vital and vibrant snapshot of contemporary Scottish creativity.  The artwork will form part of an installation by Drill Hall-based architects Biomorphis, filling the historic Drill Hall with a huge riso machine-inspired structure.

The exhibition will open on Friday 9th October, and will run until 31st October 2020. See Out of the Blueprint’s website for opening times.

We do appreciate that there are many people and organisations in dire need during these challenging times however we are asking all of our supporters to help us if they can, and in whatever way they can. So far we have raised over £5,000 from donations, which is now in the artists solidarity fund to enable us to help keep artists doing their thing. Thank you to all who have donated. Your support is appreciated and we are touched by the messages of support that have accompanied them.

We know that many of you will have nothing to spare, but if you can make a donation to support us, click here.

Thank you!

Over the course of 2024 Out of the Blue will continue to offer opportunities for artists and members of the community to learn, participate and earn income.

We use the space we have developed in 6 buildings in Edinburgh for studios, workshops, classes, projects, exhibitions, social enterprises, events, clubs, music making, markets, a cafe and more.

Our all year round activity helps create the culture of the city, supporting the local economy and having positive social impact for the thousands of individuals and organisations we work with.

We would humbly accept a financial donation, however small, in support of our work.
