Take One Action Film Festivals is the UK’s leading global citizenship film festival, led by film lovers, artists and globally-concerned citizens based in Scotland who believe that cinematic experiences can inspire lasting change.
Truly independent, we’re owned by local arts charity Out Of The Blue (pictured above), which has an established track record as a catalyst for creativity in Edinburgh. This allows us to put the sounds of the underground and imaginative aspirations before the mighty dollar, encouraging the community to get involved and use our space to do their own thing.
At night you’ll find killer residencies from some of Scotland’s most notorious club nights: from hip hop, funk, soul, house, disco and good-time party rockers new and old at Mumbo Jumbo and Four Corners to Electrikal (pictured below) and Big n Bashy’s bass heavy bangers, house, techno and garage at Headset and sweet reggae rockin’ at Messenger Sound System. Soulsville brings rugged rhythm and blues and Substance (pictured above) champion terrific techno blizzards and banging house music. There are also midweek nights Notion (house/techno) and Loco Kamanchi (bass).
Our aim is to encourage the playing of the clarsach – one of Scotland’s oldest national instruments. We do this by hiring instruments, publishing music, granting scholarships and an annual Young Composer Award as well as organising workshops and events, including the Edinburgh International Harp Festival. There are twelve regional branches throughout the UK and one specialist wire branch.
