Bruncheon! Featuring The Eastern Swell, Dowally, Candythief & Edinburgh Contemporary Choir

Saturday 11th March 2017
11.30am - 2.30pm, free entry

Live music and brunch at the Drill Hall Arts Cafe!

Anglo Scottish outfit The Eastern Swell formed in Edinburgh in 2014 and signed to Edinburgh’s Stereogram Recordings. Their debut album “One Day, A Flood” was described by The Scotsman as “a pleasing patchouli oil scented blend of prog rock, pastoral folk and psyche” (4/5 stars). The band will be playing a mix of songs from the album and new material in a stripped-down acoustic set. That description is accurate, but doesn’t really give you much of an insight into how much this is a not-to-be-missed fixture. Rattling riffs, soaring powerful melody, the satisfying blend of energies is a delight to experience. http://www.theeasternswell.com

Dowally make unclassifiable, thrillingly energetic music, fusing their love of traditional Scottish tunes with jazz harmony, Eastern European rhythms and deep Americana raucousness. Dan Abrahams’ driving guitar and Rachel Walker’s swinging fiddle are joined by the extraordinary Phil Alexander (Moishe’s Bagel) on accordion and Graham Coe (The Jellyman’s Daughter) on cello. Having garnered rave reviews all across the UK, from jazz festivals to pub sessions, they are currently producing their second album of original material. https://www.facebook.com/dowallymusic

BBC Introducing artist Candythief, aka anglo-euro songwriter Diana de Cabarrus, first emerged in
association with Fife micro label Fence records. Drawing on alternative, acoustic, psych pop, indie influences with a touch of chanson, the songs are melody-driven, occasionally theatrical, hopping between styles, and coloured by unusual song-structures. On record and live, Candythief is refreshingly distinctive and unusual, with live performances featuring a line up of cello, guitar, accordion, mandolin, bodhran and sometimes loops.
