December 2016 News

Thursday 1st December 2016

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at the Out of the Blue Drill Hall.

On the 2nd the Freeze Frame team offer Gremlins, a classic antidote to the traditional Christmas movie. Book a 3-course celluloid inspired meal for £15 or admission to the film ( + free popcorn!) is £3.

Two Xmas Arts Markets (3rd & 10th) provide artwork and crafts for sale direct from the artists in the relaxed atmosphere of The Out of the Blue Drill Hall. Over the two dates, more than 100 artists and makers will be selling their work, ranging from paintings, prints and photography through fashion, jewellery and textiles to ceramics, soft furnishings and design.

On Saturday 3rd December alongside the Arts Market, we are hosting the annual Open Studios event. An opportunity to meet the diverse range of professional artists and makers based at the Out of the Blue Drill Hall.

The Arts Market on Saturday 10th December features a very special Xmas Bruncheon with live music between 12noon and 3pm.

Out of the Blue’s Heritage Lottery Fund supported Leith Moves project is currently exploring the history of the movement of people to and from Leith. The research group is a free, informal and friendly group with a vital role in investigating moments in history to feed stories to the theatre and film productions. If you are interested in taking part or finding out more, just turn up at the Out of the Blue Drill Hall cafe on Saturday 3rd December at 10 am.

To get you in the party mood Wiff Waff Wednesday (14th) offers a sociable night for all ages with ping pong, music, drink and great food from the Drill Hall Arts Cafe.

The Festive Flea Market (31st) offers you a chance to rummage for treasures with over 45 stalls full to bursting with clothes, jewellery, small furniture, music, books, bric-a-brac and so much more. Once you’re done with your bargain hunting, stop for lunch at the Drill Hall Arts Cafe which offers a delicious range of home-style cooking, cakes and more.

A very Merry Christmas when it comes from all at Out of the Blue.

Over the course of 2024 Out of the Blue will continue to offer opportunities for artists and members of the community to learn, participate and earn income.

We use the space we have developed in 6 buildings in Edinburgh for studios, workshops, classes, projects, exhibitions, social enterprises, events, clubs, music making, markets, a cafe and more.

Our all year round activity helps create the culture of the city, supporting the local economy and having positive social impact for the thousands of individuals and organisations we work with.

We would humbly accept a financial donation, however small, in support of our work.
