Out of the Blue are embarking on a new project to investigate significant historical moments in the life of Leith Docks.

Leith Moves is a Heritage Lottery Funded arts and education initiative following the format of our recent highly successful Gretna 100 project. The project will include valuable opportunities to further involve the Leith community in exploring their history. The project will build over the two year period and contribute to future initiatives exploring and marking Leith’s Heritage.

To this end we are now hiring a freelance Project Coordinator

OOTB’s #artcore project goes from strength to strength involving young people in developing their skills and knowledge in a range of creative activity, to have a great impact on their lives. The recent Takeover of the Central Library being a fantastic example of young people setting the scene. In addition #artcore’s Out of the Blueprint now offers a print service run by young people as an emerging social enterprise. Check the #artcore section of the OOTB website for details of more exciting programme activity to come, contributing significantly to the Scotland wide 10 year Time to Shine youth arts strategy.

The Out of the Blue’s March programme offers many and varied opportunities for all; Flea Market (26th March – also 27th Feb), Freeze Frame Film Club (18th), Bruncheon (12th), Wiff Waff Wednesday (9th) to mention but a few.

We are looking forward to hosting the Syn 2016 – Across the Mediterranean Festival (11th – 19th March). The Festival features a series of events and an exhibition which aims to raise awareness, ignite dialogue and contribute donations to the effort of Edinburgh based initiatives that are working directly with refugees in Greece, other parts of Europe and the Mediterranean.

The Puppet Animation Festival, the UK’s oldest and largest performing arts festival for children, returns to the OOTB Drill Hall in early April. Tickets are available here.

Over the course of 2024 Out of the Blue will continue to offer opportunities for artists and members of the community to learn, participate and earn income.

We use the space we have developed in 6 buildings in Edinburgh for studios, workshops, classes, projects, exhibitions, social enterprises, events, clubs, music making, markets, a cafe and more.

Our all year round activity helps create the culture of the city, supporting the local economy and having positive social impact for the thousands of individuals and organisations we work with.

We would humbly accept a financial donation, however small, in support of our work.
