March News

Thursday 2nd March 2023

As ever, a considerable number of classes, workshops, events, markets, and exhibitions make good use of space at the Out of the Blue Drill Hall. A great deal of this activity is supported by the much acclaimed Drill Hall cafe

It is worth reiterating as the spring sun emerges, that the Out of the Blue Drill Hall Cafe flourishes as the beating heart of the Drill Hall. In fact, according to a Times review, it is the ‘beating heart of Leith’ and ‘one of the 5 best cafes in Scotland’.

The cafe team make the cafe what it is and have initiated and delivered many innovative and popular events including the much acclaimed monthly Flea Market. It has also trained, employed and supported many local people.

Another of Out of the Blue’s enterprises, Out of the Blueprint have a new artist in residence, illustrator and printmaker Morvern Graham who will be unveiling new artwork investigating – and inventing – local legends and folk tales.

Out of the Blueprint’s previous artist in residence, Celeste John-Wood is currently exhibiting UnProcessed at the Out of the Blue Drill Hall. (Exhibition runs until Saturday 18th March 2023). Celeste gathered inspiration from commons and shared spaces, visualising links, knots, fences and connections.

Thank you for your support.

Over the course of 2024 Out of the Blue will continue to offer opportunities for artists and members of the community to learn, participate and earn income.

We use the space we have developed in 6 buildings in Edinburgh for studios, workshops, classes, projects, exhibitions, social enterprises, events, clubs, music making, markets, a cafe and more.

Our all year round activity helps create the culture of the city, supporting the local economy and having positive social impact for the thousands of individuals and organisations we work with.

We would humbly accept a financial donation, however small, in support of our work.
