Thursday 24th May 2018

Summer gives Out of the Blue the chance to throw open the doors and offer the opportunity for all to see behind the scenes and into the studios of the artists and makers based at the Drill Hall. Many acclaimed OOTB based artists will have a diverse range of work available for visitors to enjoy and purchase (June 9th).

This Open Studios event (9th) runs alongside the Exposed 18 Edinburgh College Photography exhibition (6th-15th June), Bruncheon live music event, and is part of this year’s Leith Festival. As part of the event Out of the Blueprint will be demonstrating risograph printing – an affordable, eco-friendly print process with a unique aesthetic.

In parallel, Out of the Blue Abbeymount Studios are also throwing open the doors of OOTB’s makers centre located in the old Victorian school building at the top of Easter Road. A chance to see our creative spaces, meet the makers and browse their work (June 9th).

Also as part of Leith Festival the Out of the Blue Drill offers Active Inquiry and Strange Town’s latest collaborative production; Overtime: Stories of work in Leith in 2018 (Thursday 14th – Saturday 16th June). Made in Leith for the people of Leith and beyond!

The annual graduate show of Edinburgh College’s award winning photography department, Exposed 18 is one of the biggest and the most influential celebrations of new creative commercial photography in the UK and showcases the talent of up to 80 new photographers.

Outside of the Leith Festival, Out of the Blueprint are also running their 3rd Print Jam with comic-making workshops, zine club, exhibitions, superhero life drawing and risograph demos.

The ever convivial Wiff Waff Wednesday returns on 27th June and a Wiff Waff club night runs a special Sunday service (17th June). The ever popular monthly Flea Market runs on the 26th May and returns on the 30th June.

The Out of the Blue Cafe’s ability to organise a fine market extends to Expo – Summer ’18 (Sunday 24th June) with specialist traders bringing you the best selection of Mid Century furniture and design under one roof.

Over the course of 2024 Out of the Blue will continue to offer opportunities for artists and members of the community to learn, participate and earn income.

We use the space we have developed in 6 buildings in Edinburgh for studios, workshops, classes, projects, exhibitions, social enterprises, events, clubs, music making, markets, a cafe and more.

Our all year round activity helps create the culture of the city, supporting the local economy and having positive social impact for the thousands of individuals and organisations we work with.

We would humbly accept a financial donation, however small, in support of our work.
