September News

Wednesday 30th August 2023

September is shaping up to be a busy month at the Out of the Blue Drill Hall with another exciting programme of events, classes, workshops and exhibitions.

Following the success of their Outside + In exhibition in May, the brilliant Drill Hall studio artists are returning with their new autumn exhibition, A Closer Look. From paintings and illustrations to jewellery, tapestry and embroidery, it’s a showcase of their talents and achievements. The exhibition is on from Wednesday 13th to Saturday 23rd September.

Also returning this autumn is the ever-popular Freeze Frame Film Club. Their opening film on Sunday 17th September is Bill Forsyth’s Local Hero. Join us to celebrate 40 years of this iconic Scottish film, with a menu inspired by the film, freshly popped popcorn and a quiz with prizes.

Doors Open Day is coming back to Edinburgh this September. On Saturday 23rd September we’ll be opening our doors to free behind the scenes tours where you can find out more about the Drill Hall’s history and transformation from a military building to a participatory and inclusive arts and cultural venue. Tours will run every hour from 11am to 2pm with sign-up sheets available at the venue from 10am.

Our monthly Flea Market takes place on Saturday 30th September, and as always, the Drill Hall café will be open throughout the month, serving a great selection of teas, coffees and treats.

Thank you once again for your support and hope to see you soon! In the meantime take a look at our programme to find out more about what’s coming up.

Over the course of 2024 Out of the Blue will continue to offer opportunities for artists and members of the community to learn, participate and earn income.

We use the space we have developed in 6 buildings in Edinburgh for studios, workshops, classes, projects, exhibitions, social enterprises, events, clubs, music making, markets, a cafe and more.

Our all year round activity helps create the culture of the city, supporting the local economy and having positive social impact for the thousands of individuals and organisations we work with.

We would humbly accept a financial donation, however small, in support of our work.
