October News

Thursday 28th September 2023

With the nights fair drawing in we’ve got another exciting programme of events, classes, workshops, and exhibitions to keep you entertained at the Out of the Blue Drill Hall.

October sees the start of Creative Carers – a project where we’re partnering with VOCAL to offer unpaid carers a number of creative and inspiring workshops that they can enjoy, to take time away from their caring role, try something new and connect with others.

Out of the Blue Abbeymount Studios resident Karina Pasiut will be showing her new exhibition Days and Nights at the Drill Hall from Tuesday 3rd to Friday 6th October. Her work focuses on drawing on paper, mixing paints, hand printing and embroidery.

If you’re looking for some bargains, our monthly Flea Market takes place on Saturday 28th October, with over 45 stalls packed with clothes, books, antiques and other collectibles.

Following hot on the heels of a sold out screening of Local HeroFreeze Frame Film Club are back with their Halloween film, the gloriously gory horror comedy Shaun of the Dead on Sunday 29th October.

Finally, Out of the Blueprint artist-in-residence Levi Richards’ new exhibition Bloke in a Dress opens on Friday 29th September. An exhibition of riso and screenprints, it will be on until Saturday 11th November.

As always, the Drill Hall Café will be open throughout the month, serving a great selection of teas, coffees and treats.

Thank you once again for your support and hope to see you soon! In the meantime take a look at our programme to find out more about what’s coming up.

Over the course of 2024 Out of the Blue will continue to offer opportunities for artists and members of the community to learn, participate and earn income.

We use the space we have developed in 6 buildings in Edinburgh for studios, workshops, classes, projects, exhibitions, social enterprises, events, clubs, music making, markets, a cafe and more.

Our all year round activity helps create the culture of the city, supporting the local economy and having positive social impact for the thousands of individuals and organisations we work with.

We would humbly accept a financial donation, however small, in support of our work.
